Then & Now Series

Then & Now Featuring Joakim Östberg from Sweden 🇸🇪

Freestyle Freddy recently launched a new series, Then & Now, which features our World Championship athletes - highlighting where they were when they first started flipping, to where they are now. It's a great throwback in time for these talented young flippers. Follow @freestylefreddy_official to see more great Then & Now posts.

From a young flipper who started just 9 years ago into flipping, to a top-ranked freestyle athlete in 2024, Joakim "Jocke" Östberg has been defying gravity for nearly a decade! 🙌 The FTA first met him at a Freemovr event in Sweden (2017) when he was just 14 years old and he impressed us just as much then as he does now.

Standing at 197 cm (6’5”), Joakim is a true gentle giant—one of the nicest guys in the community. But his height makes his journey unique. The laws of physics aren’t always kind to taller athletes on the trampoline—longer limbs and a higher center of gravity make rotations, flips, and twists way harder to control. Yet, Joakim has never let that stop him. His dedication, clean technique, and raw power helped him place 3rd at the 2024 Swedish Qualifier and secure a #23 world ranking in freestyle trampoline. 🏆🔥

His favorite skill? Cody Full Out—because what’s better than launching into a wild twist off your stomach? 😆

Beyond competing, Joakim works at a trampoline park in Sweden and as a lifeguard, proving that he’s always looking out for others both in and out of the sport. He even runs his own merch line, giving back to the community that helped him grow. 💪
